About Dr. Alfonso Lopez Cardona

A mental health professional with decades of experience helping patients, Dr. Alfonso Lopez Cardona earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Colombia and underwent additional training in the field of psychiatry from the Universidad del Valle Facultad de Medicina in the same country. After his training overseas, he continued his education in America by passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination and engaging in ESL studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Alfonso Lopez Cardona then underwent his residency at Washington, DC’s Georgetown University Medical Center and further his doctoral education in the field of child psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland.

Currently, Dr. Alfonso Lopez Cardona furnishes care services with Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center, a facility located in Portsmouth, Virginia dedicated to healing young people with developmental or psychiatric challenges. In his leadership role, Dr. Lopez-Cardona monitors the health staff at Harbor Point and generally promotes a high professional standard befitting the reputation of the institution. He also contributes his thorough knowledge of such diverse mental health issues as adult attention deficit disorder, the full spectrum of autism, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress, and bipolar disorder. As a bilingual professional, he can speak to patients in both the Spanish and English languages.

In addition to his practical experience and his education, Dr. Alfonso Lopez Cardona comes Board Certified in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the same organization designated him Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
